Has anyone built a dedicated homepage/Space for their Confluence?

We have several Spaces setup now for several projects, but they can feel a bit hidden behind menus, or you have to know they exist to track them down, so how are users supposed to know what they don't know?

My thought to remedy this was a dedicated Space that acts as a landing page for all our spaces. All projects, FAQ, etc. can easily be seen without hunting for it.

I'd love to hear if anyone else has considered doing this for their organization. Or have any thoughts on the idea.

Hi @Brydon Parsons,

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

Yes, we have multiple landing pages in Confluence for this. Our main space/page used to just be links to other pages within Confluence but we decided to redo our IT one and move away from using the portal that comes with JSM. As part of this change we decided to get Aura so we could format the IT space better. I have since then done the same thing with our main page and in that case I used Karma which is part of Aura.

At my previous job we did something similar by using Refined so that we could put spaces in different dropdown menus.

Hi Brydon,

Beginning with a straightforward approach that doesn't rely on additional apps can be effective. You can design a Confluence page that includes links or clickable linked images that lead to different spaces and pages. This custom page can then be set as the default Confluence home page (Administration -> Further Configuration), which will be the first thing users see when they click on the Confluence logo in the top navigation bar.

To make this page more visually appealing and to incorporate elements like button links for a smoother user experience, consider using the free app Karma.

However the best approach that came to my mind is to use an app that provides a navigation menu, where you can add entries, that are important to your users, like support, onboarding, teams, and other topics. There are several apps out there. I don't know if you are on Cloud or Data Center.

The question is how far you want to go. Do you want something that only provides menues? Then Navigation Menus for Confluence might be good fit. If you want something more sophisticated, like an Intranet Hub that provides easy access to important resources like news, links to pages/spaces/external tools, and also a personalized menu, then Mantra could be a fit. It really depends on what you are looking for.

I hope this information helps.

Best regards

There are many ways how to boost your Confluence Navigation Experience in the Cloud and design custom organization space with the help of native features and by elevating with other macros.

To name a few to get you started, here are some tips:

  • Ensure better searchability in Confluence
  • Promote quick and advanced search usage
  • Structure content with templates, labels, and macros
  • Make content discovery and Confluence navigation easier by building informative catalogs and documentation sites directly in Confluence

All of that and many more is gather in our articles, one on them covers in detail on how to build a catalog in Confluence and another discusses best practices for documentation hub creation in Confluence.

In both articles we shared native tips and tricks and some ways the Confluence can be leveled with our Handy Macros for Confluence app which can be a good fit for your use case. You can try it out free on the Atlassian Marketplace and explore its opportunities for your needs and wants.

we have an app called Advanced Content Navigator, which can help you in this matter. This is a combination of Children Display and Table of Contents, but with many other features like changing the root page, open details in panels, manage statues, saving the view, and previewing pages.

As it is a macro, it can be combined with any above! :)

Good luck with your dashboard!
