Can custom fields displayed or mapped to components be controlled through labels?

Abhaykumar Patil July 14, 2023

Currently I see we can use 'Component Types' to control what custom fields displayed on component page. I could have two teams which want to see different custom fields on their Service component. How do I achieve that?

Hey Abhaykumar,

I apologize for the delayed response.

Based on your specific use case, if two teams require different custom fields for their Service component, you need to carefully consider the structure of your component types and the associated custom fields.

NB: Unfortunately, Compass only allows a single Service component type and does not support creating multiple sub-types or variations within the same component type; you may need to explore alternative strategies to handle the need for different custom fields for other teams.

Here are a few approaches you might consider:

Create Separate Component Types:

  • If the two teams need distinctly different sets of custom fields, consider creating two separate component types. For example, you could have Service and Application.

Define Custom Fields for Each Component Type:

  • Once you have separate component types, you can define the custom fields associated with each type. Navigate to the Compass settings and specify which custom fields are relevant for each.

I hope this helps to clarify! Please let me know if there is anything else that I can help you with.

Best regards,
Alie
