Hello Compass Community,
I’m delighted to share some big news - Compass is now in General Availability (GA)! First off, a massive thank you to all of our beta customers for your feedback and encouragement in shaping Compass, which is now used by thousands of engineering organizations to improve their developer experience. This post answers some of the biggest questions related to this change, and we invite you to join us at our November 1 office hours for any additional questions.
No action is needed yet! We appreciate the important role that our beta customers played in shaping Compass. To help plan with transitioning to a Free or Standard plan, all beta customers who signed up before October 5, 2023, will continue to have free access to their Compass sites until March 31, 2024. After that date, beta users will need to transition to a Free or Standard plan to continue accessing Compass. Whether you choose a Free or paid Standard plan, all of your existing Compass catalog, template, team, and scorecard data will be included. We’ll be sure to notify you and provide additional resources starting in January 2024.
To verify if you’re a beta customer, you can navigate to admin.atlassian.com, select the desired organization, and see the complete list of products and your plan. You should see “Beta” next to Compass. As always, you can opt-out or cancel from the billing console.
To get started improving your developer experience with Compass, simply sign up for a Free or Standard Compass account today.
The free plan gives you everything you need to start automatically populating your software component catalog, tracking default metrics and health scorecards, and connecting your favorite tools.
If you need more customization or full user seats, the Standard plan includes a 14-day free trial.
Compass is free to try and available in Free and Standard plans based on the number of standard users you’ll have in your organization. The Compass software catalog is free for all users regardless of your plan, and there’s one low price for every engineer as you scale. The free software catalog ensures every customer can connect their repositories, libraries, APIs, and more in one unified location to help improve how engineering teams collaborate.
Free plan($0/user/month) |
Standard plan($7/user/month) |
Includes three full users and unlimited basic users. Ideal for small teams or individuals who want to track all of their services and software health in a unified catalog. Includes:
|
Up to 35k full users. For every team looking to improve their developer experience and operation readiness. Includes everything in the Free plan, plus:

We recommend full user licenses for any engineer who builds, ships, or maintains code in production environments. Compass enables them to understand the health of their services, quickly find metadata and dependencies, and provision environments for new services in one click.
Everyone else in your organization can still access the free catalog via a basic user license to fuel collaboration and connect technology to your teams, work, and content. GA is just a starting point for us! We have a massive amount of opportunity and value to add by investing in those four existing areas above while listening to customer feedback to ensure we build what you need. In addition, there are several key areas we plan to invest in:
How Compass works together with Atlassian tools: Connecting more data and creating seamless experiences across Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence, Opsgenie, and Bitbucket will improve the developer experience across the entire lifecycle. Tracking technical debt while balancing competing priorities between innovation and reliability for individual software teams, or providing additional context during an incident about the various pieces of software involved are just a few examples.
Leveraging Atlassian Platform: As we continue to connect Compass data to the larger teamwork graph, we can leverage Atlassian Automation, Analytics, and Intelligence capabilities to further improve the internal developer experience. This will reduce a massive amount of toil and give you powerful insights across your tech stack.
More use cases on top of the catalog: We will explore building new use cases that are made possible by having a single, reliable place to capture all the context around code. Some examples include better API and developer documentation, developer surveys, cost optimizations, and open-source dependency management. Many of these use cases will be powered by our marketplace partners and third-party tools distributed through Compass to engineering teams around the world.
Click here and sign up. It’s free to try and takes just minutes to get up and running.
We’re here to help! Leave us a Comment below, or join us on November 1st for office hours. We’ll be there to answer your questions and help you get the most out of Compass.
Thank you again to all of our Compass users as we celebrate this exciting milestone! We’re excited to continue partnering with you and deliver exciting new features on our mission to build a better developer experience.
