Community release note for May 15, 2023

Hello community!

Today, we are making a change to the logged-out homepage of the Atlassian Community.  By default, this will now show the "Top" posts according to a machine learning algorithm developed by our team.

We're making this change because we want to show brand new visitors a sampling of the best content the community has to offer, rather than a list of recent unanswered questions. We also wanted to give anonymous users the option to immediately sort content in different ways for the first time. 

Curious about this experience? Just visit the community homepage in an incognito window (or logged out) to see this in action!

The top posts will automatically refresh once per day; currently at around 9am Pacific time. 

Thank you to the developers, designers, and machine learning team for releasing this improved experience for our visitors!  And please feel free to leave comments and feedback below, as per usual. We're excited to hear what you think. 🎉

This change makes sense - show potential users what's "hot" (lots of engagement) and they'll want to join in the conversation.

Will logged-in users be able to sample this "Top" feed without logging out?

... and crazy how I never knew about the "Trending" feed. I feel like it sounds the same as "Top" but that's just me 😅

@Dave Liao currently this is only on the logged-out homepage, but of course we are thinking about how we might incorporate this for logged-in users in the future, so your feedback is helpful! 

"Trending" is based on recent views and likes and is an out of the box feature of the platform. You're right that from a user perspective it seems like the same thing! 🤔
