Why can't I clone a Bitbucket repo using the same password I use to log into my Atlassian account?

Muhammad Ravi Shulthan Habibi June 1, 2024

I just invited to private repo, and I need to clone them to my local machine. But when I do git clone it always shows up the login screen and I need to fill the password section. Once I finished fill the password, it says: Invalid Credentials. While from that one password I can log in to my Atlassian account in browser now.

hello @Muhammad Ravi Shulthan Habibi !  Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

The use of the Atlassian account password for cloning, and interacting with a local repo over https was deprecated as shown in this Community question.

https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Bitbucket-questions/Authentication-Failed-cant-access-own-bitbucket-repo-due-to-quot/qaq-p/2427770

You can set up an app password and connect over https with that and your Bitbucket username.  https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Bitbucket-questions/Authentication-Failed-cant-access-own-bitbucket-repo-due-to-quot/qaq-p/2427770
