Really need to allow UI input variables with shared pipeline configurations

I love the recent new feature as described here: https://bitbucket.org/blog/share-ci-config

Unfortunately, I did some experimentation and there is no way to define UI variables in the imported bitbucket-pipeline.yml. And that is a significant requirement for my company. Many of our custom pipelines require the operator to input variable values.

Does anyone else share that need?
