Merge Pull Request not working when using windows preserved names or paths

We currently run into issues with merging in pull request. Some of our suppliers seem to use windows preserved file name or paths (see Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces - Win32 apps | Microsoft Docs).
In this case, we cannot merge in the pull request.
Any idea of work around? Is this something atlassian will fix? Can we solve this by running on linux server instead of windows server. Are there other side effects/known issues when using linux server?
