Included code line when using suggestion

Jesper September 12, 2023

We recently moved to Bitbucket Cloud, from Bitbucket Server.
We are running into a lot of useful features missing. Things that make routine tasks you do daily much easier,

One of these features was Suggest a change to this line of code,
I know you can still make a suggestion, but on the server version, it included the line of code you were commenting on. Is this possible in Bitbucket Cloud, either natively, in a script, or using an app from the marketplace

Also Copy link to comment, on Bitbucket Server you had an icon at the top of the comment which allowed you to link directly to the comment. Is this still possible?

Shortcuts, a large potion of shortcuts seems to be missing compared to Bitbucket server. It's also Caps Lock that is the modifier instead of shift - does anybody know why or why/if you can change too?

I hope there is a solution for these, as they all add up to a frustrating experience.

Thanks in advance

Hi Jesper,

One of these features was Suggest a change to this line of code

Are you referring to this feature of Bitbucket Server?

If so, I'm afraid that this is not natively available in Bitbucket Cloud and I'm not aware of an app that provides this functionality. We have a feature request about this in our issue tracker: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BCLOUD-21119 The request has been closed because it is unlikely to be worked on in the near future. However, I would suggest that you leave a comment with your feedback to express your interest, as our product managers continue to monitor even closed requests.

Also Copy link to comment, on Bitbucket Server you had an icon at the top of the comment which allowed you to link directly to the comment. Is this still possible?

The link to a comment is provided on the timestamp. You can right-click the timestamp of the comment (e.g. "10 minutes ago") > Copy link address and then paste that link on a different comment. Does this work for you?

Shortcuts, a large potion of shortcuts seems to be missing compared to Bitbucket server. It's also Caps Lock that is the modifier instead of shift - does anybody know why or why/if you can change too?

Available shortcuts for Bitbucket Cloud can be found here:

Bitbucket Cloud has a different source code base than Bitbucket Server, and some features like the shortcuts are different in the two products.

If you are missing certain shortcuts that you were using in Bitbucket Server, please feel free to let me know which they are and I can check if we have an existing feature request for those, otherwise, I can create a new one.

Kind regards,
Theodora

Hello Theodora,

Thank you for the answers.

Suggest a change to this line of code

A colleague found this suggestion, on your site - https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/BCLOUD-17360
This seems to be what we are looking for, only we don't know if, how, or when this could be implemented.
Can I ask, a review phase how long is that generally? Keen to hear what the final answer will be.

Copy link to comment

To be honest not the most intuitive approach :)

Shortcuts

Well, what I hear from my colleagues is the use of Caps lock is quite odd - also before you have to turn it off again. Adding to inputs, compared to using shift.

To name a few, able to quickly Diff files with Shift+D, and move between files using keyboard shortcuts instead of the mouse.

Hi Jesper,

Can I ask, a review phase how long is that generally?

I'm afraid that I don't have a time frame to share. Implementation of new features is done as per our policy here.

When there is an update, it is going to be posted in the feature request. You can add yourself as a watcher if you'd like to get notified on updates.

move between files using keyboard shortcuts instead of the mouse

I assume you are referring to the pull requests files, can you please confirm?

Kind regards,
Theodora

Hi Theodora,

Correct, that is for pull requests :)

Hi Jesper,

Thank you for your reply.

I went ahead and created feature requests for the use of Shift instead of CAPS LOCK and for toggling side-by-side diff with Shift + D:

I found a few feature requests about keyboard shortcuts for moving between PR files, e.g.:

However, I'm afraid that they have been closed as it's unlikely they'll be worked on in the near future.

Please keep in mind that new features are implemented according to the policy I linked in my previous reply and not all of them make it to our roadmap. I would suggest adding your vote (to the open ones) and comment to express your interest, as this helps our product managers to better understand the demand for features.

Kind regards,
Theodora
