How to copy/paste and preserve the format from README.md to the pull request description?

Jason Harrison March 10, 2021

I spent a bunch of time entering the changes for a new version of our library, and want to paste it into the pull request description for the PR from dev to master.

When I copy (control-c) (from vscode on ubuntu 18.04 LTS) and then paste (control-v) to the description field (firefox, cloud bitbucket) I get a "code formatted" result:

And when I use shift-control-v for pasted unformatted or "same format" I get extra line breaks, and no native formatting. Note that the list items are all 1, 1, 1, 1...:

Is there a better way to "copy this text and paste it with reasonable formatting" into the pull request?

yes! with vscode,

  • click on the tab of the README.md, and select "Open Preview"
  • select the formatted text you want to copy and copy it to the clipboard
  • paste the text into the Pull Request Description
