Under 'Personal settings', when I go to my 'Two-step verification' settings, the only

option is to 'Enable two-step verification'. But I've already got it enabled.

This looks to be a bug in your web interface. There doesn't seem to be a way to

disable two factor verification, once it's been enabled..

Steps to Disable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) in Bitbucket:

  • Go to Bitbucket and log in with your credentials

  • Click on your avatar (profile picture) at the top right corner to open the drop-down menu.

  • Select "Personal settings."

  • In the personal settings menu, look for "Security" or "Two-step verification"
(sometimes   listed under "Account settings" or "Security settings").

  • If 2FA is already enabled, there should be an option to disable it. Look for a button or link that says "Disable two-step verification" or "Remove two-step verification."

  • Follow the prompts to disable 2FA. You may need to enter your password or provide another form of verification.

If Option to Disable 2FA Is Not Visible:

  • Sometimes, browser cache issues can cause problems with displaying options. Clear your browser cache and cookies and try accessing the settings again

  • Use a different web browser to log in to Bitbucket and navigate to the security settings. This can help determine if the issue is browser-specific.

  • Use a different web browser to log in to Bitbucket and navigate to the security settings. This can help determine if the issue is browser-specific.

  • If the option to disable 2FA is still not visible, it might be a bug in Bitbucket’s web interface. Check Bitbucket's status page for any ongoing issues or outages.

  • If you still cannot disable 2FA, contact Bitbucket support for assistance. Provide them with details of the issue and any error messages you encounter.

Hi @ginolee ,

Welcome to the Community! This other post may be helpful:

You mentioned that 2FA is already enabled but that you see the option to enable it. What happens if you click on it to enable it (again)?

I did briefly try clicking on that 'enable 2fa' button, passing it my Authenticator code, but that failed.

I was able to find a workaround. I got a  confirmation email from tlassian re 2fa. One of the options in The email allowed me to disable it.

Hello @ginolee ,

Just adding to the previous response, in Atlassian, there are two different layers of 2FA:

  • The Atlassian account 2FA : this layer sits at the Atlassian account level and is valid for all Atlassian products, including Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence, etc.
  • The Bitbucket account 2SV : this layer applies only to bitbucklet. You saw this option disabled in your personal Bitbucket settings.

You can have both layers enabled, meaning that when you access bitbucket, you'll be prompted by 2 different codes.

For more details on how to configure/disable each of the layers, I would recommend checking the following article:

Thank you, @ginolee !
