Different merge strategy based on branch

Is it possible to set a different merge strategy based on target branch? For example, main only allows 'squash, ff only', and release/* branches allows ff only? If this is not possible, which I don't think it is, can this be requested as a feature?

I'm afraid it's currently not possible to define the merge strategy based on the branch, but the good news is that we already have a feature request to include that functionality:

I would suggest you to add your vote there, since this helps both developers and product managers to understand the interest. Also, make sure you add yourself as a watcher in case you want to receive first-hand updates from that ticket. Please note that all features are implemented with this policy in mind.
