Bitbucket workspace ID is not available (but it's not used)

I just created the account and trying to setup the Bit Bucket Workspace.
Somehow it's not allowing me to take the Workspace ID same as my account username.

Is there a way to fix it?

Hello @Whitecoate ,

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

You are not being able to use that particular ID  because all the workspaceIDs in Bitbucket Cloud must be globally unique, considering all the other existing workspaces in the platform, including different workspaces than yours. Since there's likely a workspace already using the ID you are trying, it's expected that you are not being able to create a new workspace with that name.

Hope that helps to clarify your questions.

Thank you, @Whitecoate !

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

What makes you think the ID is not used?  Could someone have already used it, and then stopped, so it's gone dormant?  Atlassian delete these eventually, after a few months, but I don't know if they keep the name reserved for longer
