Bitbucket repository folder getting extremely large

I noticed the folder containing the bitbucket repositories is getting increasingly larger whenever a commit is pushed (not just a few kb or even mb but around 40MB per push with small changes). After some investigation i've noticed that that "pack" folder (full path = ApplicationData\Bitbucket\shared\data\repositories\1\objects\pack) is extremely large (700MB) and contains a lot of tmp-like files which seem to be created when a push occurs. i havent seen this behaviour before and it is quite unexpected to say the least. does anybody about these tmp files or a way to get rid of them without ruining the repository ?

please see the included screenshot for info about the pack folder and files
