Integrating Automation for Jira with BigPicture using REST API

Hello everyone!

I'm working on a project where I want to automate some processes in Jira, specifically the creation of Boxes within BigPicture, using Automation for Jira and the BigPicture REST API. However, I have encountered some challenges when trying to connect both tools effectively.

The case:

  1. Goal: Use Automation for Jira to automatically create Boxes in BigPicture using its REST API.
  2. Challenges
    • Authentication: I'm using the "Bearer Token" authentication method but I'd like to know if there are any other recommended ways to do it, or if there are some kind of special settings for the BigPicture APIs.
    • Endpoints: I have tried using different BigPicture API endpoints (based on the original documentation) but have not gotten the expected response.
    • Response: In some cases, when making requests, I receive responses in HTML instead of JSON, which is not expected according to the documentation.

Questions

  • Has anyone managed to integrate BigPicture with Automation for Jira using REST API?
  • What is the best approach for authentication in this type of integration?
  • Are there any resources, examples, or tips on how to properly handle BigPicture API responses for these types of automations?

Additional context

  • I'm using Jira Cloud and BigPicture version 8.41.0.3.
  • My attempts to work with the official documentation have not yielded the expected result.

Any experience, suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help!,

Saludos cordiales, Mariano
