How do I set up Definitions of Done per issue status type (eg. Requirements, In Dev, In UAT etc)

We have different DoD's for issues dependant upon the status type.  For example, a ticket in Requirements/Design will have different DoD's to a ticket sitting in Ready for UAT.

I want the relevant DoD's to appear on the ticket only.

How can I do this ?

Hey, @Kylie Alvarez

If you are still looking for a solution, perhaps you'll consider an app like Smart Checklist?

You can set up default templates per issue type. Or - and this may be a bit more helpful in your case - you can set up an automation that appends checklists based on status change (issue transition). This way an issue will have a relevant DoD for Requirements/Design and Ready for Development.

Hope this helps!

Hi @Kylie Alvarez

You might consider checklist apps that allow you to create a list of items inside the issue view.

I can recommend our Issue Checklist for Jira Pro, or Free plugin that allows you to automatically add a checklist template based on issue type using Default Templates.

This is how Checklist looks like inside the issue view:

Checklist_DOD.png

In the Checklist Tab that can be found in the left navigation bar, you can Create a Checklist Template and set it as default with a button available next to your newly created checklist.

In the next step, you can choose in which issue type this checklist should be automatically applied.

I hope that clarifies your request. In case you have any other you can contact us through our Contact Center here.

Cheers!

Hi @Kylie Alvarez

How are you representing definitions of done (DoD) today in the issues?  Knowing this will help the community to offer better suggestions.

For example, are you using a checklist field (or addon) for the team to mark things off?  Or perhaps just pasting in the list of items as text in a field?

Until we know that...

What you seem to be describing is "Exit Policies", which are effectively definitions of done for each step in a workflow.  These are often used by teams with Kanban working methods.

There is nothing built-in for Jira to support either DoD or Exit Policies.

If you are using an Atlassian Marketplace addon for checklists, many support the use of automation rules.  With those, the team could create automation rules to dynamically change the checklist items to reflect your Exit Policy when transitioning into a particular status.

There may also be marketplace addons for different board configurations, allowing the display of DoD or Exit Policies.  Perhaps search the marketplace to learn more about those.

Kind regards,
Bill
