Automation that can detect changes in Ideas Delivery issues?

Ultimate need: Discovery project view where ideas are grouped by the Project their Delivery issues belong to.

Automation problem:

I am trying to set up an automation that detects changes in Ideas' Delivery issues, and then populates a custom multi-select field that will reflect what Projects those issues belong to.

Is this even possible? I have spent hours on this just to find that an Idea's issues inside 'Delivery' are not treated as 'Linked issues', and changes under 'Delivery' are not recognised as 'Issue updated' either. So automation rules never even trigger.

Help!

Carlos

Hi @Carlos Pi -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Short answer: I believe the only way to detect adding a "delivery ticket" issue link to a JPD Idea is using a broader-scoped rule: multiple-project or global scope.  This will detect it from the software project side, allowing branching to the Idea for access and updates as the destination issue of the linkage.

A few weeks ago, I helped with another similar question where we experimented quite a bit and found some internal Jira code prevents JPD projects from triggering the "issue-linked" event for the Delivery Ticket feature.  This was clearly intentional and probably done to prevent "noise" from those links being added firing rules unexpectedly.  When one Idea is linked to another Idea (e.g., "blocks") the event does fire as expected.

And so your rule could trigger on the link add (or remove) for the software-projects, and parse what is needed to add to your multiple-select option field.

Kind regards,
Bill
