AI Work Breakdown Is Generally Available!

Hey everyone! I’m Aditi, a Product Manager at Atlassian and I’m excited to announce that AI Work Breakdown is generally available! Rocket

What is AI Work Breakdown?

AI Work Breakdown allows you to efficiently analyze and split larger tasks into smaller, manageable units using AI-generated suggestions. This feature simplifies the process of creating multiple work items, saving you from the manual task of individually generating each one. With just a few clicks, you can generate a number of suggested work items that you can edit and create, allowing you to focus on getting work done.

For a detailed walkthrough on how to use this feature, check out our latest demo den!

Improvements Based on Your Feedback

Since the open beta, we've listened to your feedback and made significant enhancements. AI work breakdown now provides even more relevant work suggestions, ensuring that the breakdown of work aligns closely with your project needs. This improvement is a direct result of your productive input, making AI Work Breakdown more intuitive and effective than ever before.

We’d love to hear from you!

We can't wait to hear your feedback! Feel free to share your thoughts and feedback on this post or via the thumbs up/down when you use the feature. Your input is invaluable to us as we strive to enhance your Jira experience.

absolutely love this capability and think it is going to be a major time saver for my product owners/managers. Is there a way we can allow for the work breakdown to be partition to other projects.  In the SAFe world we have a separate project dedicated to features from the team project set up. To keep consistency we disable other issuetypes from being curated in the same project for data integrity purposes. If we were able to generate the ideas but push them to new issuetypes that align to a team project it would streamline a major headache for us.

Otherwise amazing work and idea!

Hi @Colton.Kosicek , thanks for your feedback. Glad you're liking the capability!

At this stage it is not possible to create the suggested work items in different projects, however thank you for sharing this use case and we'll keep it in mind for future improvements!

If you're looking to change the type of the work item, that can be done inline by clicking on the dropdown icon next to the type icon. See here for more details on how to do this.

😮 For last 2 weeks I was preparing one demo environment for the presentation we had yesterday and I've used 'Suggest child issues' a lot, but never noticed that I can actually click on an issue before it's created and edit the fields 😅 This AI thing within issues/items is a game changer as it saves so much time whenever creating some examples or just for improving what's already written within an item.

💡 What I would maybe like to see at some point in the future is to be able to say to the AI something like "Create 5 Epics with a couple of Stories, Tasks and Bugs, together with some sub-tasks based on XYZ topic/theme". Today, I still have to manually start creating Epics one by one, use AI within each and then features such as 'Suggest child issues', again within each, to create content. So I guess what I'm talking about is for AI to be able to create 'sample project' or just part of an existing project based on the topic/content given.
