What is the point of data migrations?

Migrations here are typically referring to either:

  • moving from one platform t another i.e. Jira Cloud <--> Jira Server <--> Jira Data Centre, or
  • Merging multiple instances of the same product together i.e. going from 3 Jira Server instances to a single Jira Server instance, or
  • a combination of both of the above options
