Equivalent to JIRA version report in Analytics?

Chris Peake October 28, 2024

Hi there,

Is it possible to create a forward-looking report in Analytics that is similar to the Version report that is built into JIRA?  I'm coming from eazyBI where we could create forward looking date members in the data and then create new calculated measures that forecast future performance based on the historical data.

I'm curious how one would do this in Analytics or if it's even possible to have a forward-looking chart.

Thanks Tracy.  Is there a working demo I can look at somewhere?  Or even a screen shot?  It's hard to judge whether that will really meet our needs based on a text-only description of the dashboard.  FWIW, we need to forecast based on story point execution, not based of # of issues done.

The chart example in the template doesn't account for story points, so you would need to modify the chart. If you'd like further assistance, feel free to open a support ticket and we can go through it in more detail.

Hi Chris,

There is a "Forecast" step in Visual SQL that you can use to predict future data based on the existing data.

The Jira Issues Overview dashboard template also has an example of a chart calculating the predicted completion date based on the number of issues resolved in the last year. You can look at that chart as an example.

Hope this helps!

Hi Tracy, re. the Jira Issues Overview dashboard template page, I don't see the Predicted completion date template when I go to create a new chart...?

Hi @Chris Peake, the chart is one of the charts in the dashboard template. It's not currently available as an individual chart template. You'll have to go to Create Dashboard and then select the "Jira - Issues Overview" dashboard template.

Ah, thanks Tracy.  Unfortunately that is not what I'm looking for.

  • The forecast in the template is based on issue counts rather than story points.
  • I need a burn-up chart so that there is a graphical representation of past progress and predicted future progress (this makes analysis easier and we use the intermediate forecast information as part of our decision making process).
  • Ideally we want to be able to show different types of predictions (e.g., linear based on 12w rolling average, linear from project start date...).
