Dear Experts,

I want to sync immediate supervisor information from Windows AD using ADFS to Jira Service Desk (JSD).

Right now, Atlassian access and JSD has a limitation. Both cannot support option to store supervisor.

I'm exploring different options:

  1. Use Access to bring all Users in JSD (via Script Runner or Access)
  2. Using script runner, create an API to get the specific user supervisor at runtime (Script runner)

Is it a good approach and doable? Is there any other better approach or workaround available? Please share your ideas.

Thank you

Hi Muhammad,

You're right - currently the SCIM provisioning done by Atlassian Access doesn't include a supervisor/manager field or attribute. We have a feature request open for that, which you can view and vote on here: ACCESS-822

Taking a look at apps on the Atlassian Marketplace however, there are a few options that might fill the gap.

  • Project Team for Jira Cloud sets custom fields on profiles that are in line with your requirements. By the looks of things, you must set these values manually in Jira (the app does not provide a sync functionality) or potentially you could update the field values through Jira's REST API.
  • Enhanced User Profile for Jira adds custom fields as well, except it also provides CSV file import functionality to set the details on user's profiles.
  • External Data for Jira Fields doesn't add the additional profile functionality, but it does provide a way to sync data into Jira easily. Used in combination with one of the other apps, you could add the additional custom fields and have them sync on a schedule.

I hope this provides you some consideration on getting the supervisor information in Jira!

Cheers,
Daniel
