One of the most common requests from Administrators is to add the option to control who can join a team. Before this update, teams were open for anyone in the organization to join and instantly become a member. Now you can choose whether or not you want to leave membership open for anyone to join or if you want to require invites or approvals for new members.
Teams created after this update will require people to request to join or get an invite from an existing member. You can make your teams open to anyone by checking this box when creating a team:
You can also turn membership controls on for existing teams by going to your team profile and selecting menu icon next to the Add people button. From there, you can open up team settings and clear the box to enable membership controls:
Teams are available in most Atlassian products, including Confluence Cloud, Jira Software Cloud, and Compass. We hope this gives more flexibility for how teams are accessed and improves security around teams in your organization. As always, please reach out if you have any feedback or any ideas that can help us improve Atlassian teams!
