Atlas Goals

Hello,

I would like to know if anyone have tried to use Atlas or any other Atlassian tool for team members quarterly or yearly individual goals update before?

I tried to use Atlas but unfortunately it does not let you assign individual goals to team members, its only to groups or projects or epics. But I need a feature that allows you to assign these goals to individua team member.

So our manager can meet quarterly with the team member and review okay what was your Q1 goal, how many did you accomplish, what will be your Q2 goals and so on.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi @Maryam Yusuf , thanks for reaching out!

Like Aaron mentioned above, you can assign a goal to a person. If you want to associate a goal with a team, you could set up a project for that goal and assign the team as the contributor. This way the team will show up in the "Contributing teams" section in goals. Hope that helps!

Regards,

Ge

@Maryam Yusuf -- I use the goal "Owner" field to assign goals (OKRs) to individual team members.  And as far as I know, that field only supports individuals rather than teams/groups/etc.

Caveat, the below is how we look at team yearly and quarterly goals rather than specific individuals.

Background:

  • 1 thing I've been exploring building out, is traceability from OKR <> Initiative <> Epic <> Task/Story.
  • For the sake of org change management, we only focused on initiatives, for now. Here is how we defined these:
    • The way I've defined Initiatives is "a project that is >1 quarter and less than or equal to a year."
    • The way we are using Epics is, "milestones or deliverables that are less than 1 quarter" and are "children" of the initiative (see image below).

How we built this out:

  • We built out a separate Jira project to "hold" all of the initiatives (had to create a new issue type for this and also go into advanced roadmap settings and make something the parent of an Epic).
  • We built out unique fields for the initiatives such as, what are your KPIs, a RAG status, etc.
  • We also built out a "sub-task" issue type under the initiative to track risks for these initiatives.

What did this give us:

  • We have something that looks at year long (or big) projects and the ability to track their status (i.e. Managers or executives do not need to go into the weeds of Jira to find this).
  • We have a quick glance dashboard that tells me the RAG status of the project and their associated risks.
  • We know who the "Assignee" of the project is.

In practice:

  • We build out our yearly goals and projects for the year, in the form of initiatives. On a quarterly basis:
    • When we go into the quarter we commit to "Epics" that will move the needle on that project (hopefully incrementally).
    • At the end of the quarter, we perform a retro-style review of what was accomplished, what went well, what didn't go well.

How I think you can use this:

  • I think you could use the same traceability to see how an individual ("assignee") who is working on a task/story is contributing on a given project. If you built out the above, the query you can use is:
    • issue in portfolioChildIssuesOf("[insert issue ID for the initiative]") and assignee = "[insert name]"

Hi @Maryam Yusuf

My colleague has discussed a similar question with you here a while back.

I suggest the same solution if you consider third-party apps as an option - try using OKR board for Jira. You can create OKRs on a Personal level within the app and assign them to a particular person in the team.

OKR board for Jira works with cycles/intervals you may need (quarterly, half-yearly, yearly). Besides, you’ll be able to link personal objectives and key results of your team members to the Jira issues they work on and then track the progress automatically or set manual grading.

If you have more questions or would like to discuss more - let me know, and we also can schedule a demo for you and your teammates to show the app in action.

Cheers,

Olha

Sure @Maryam Yusuf, I'm glad to be helpful!

You can learn more about the product (including costs, installation info, etc) on the Atlassian Marketplace or you can schedule a demo for a convenient time via Calendly

We'd be glad to help you with this further!
