Hello community!
We have just launched another much requested and game-changing feature in JXL for Jira: You can now build your own custom issue hierarchies in JXL sheets.
Project management at any scale needs lightning fast and completely customisable issue hierarchy. JXL enables you to structure your teams' work just the way you need. All the great JXL features you are used to, such as inline issue editing, copy and pasting fields, support for standard and custom fields, powerful filtering and sorting capabilities, and much more – now also with your own highly customisable issue hierarchy.
For the JXL users among the readers, you can check it out by clicking the hierarchy button in the table toolbar on the upper right-hand side of your sheets. Switch between no hierarchy, default Jira hierarchy, and your custom hierarchies. You may create multiple hierarchies in each of your sheets and switch between them.
By creating your own hierarchy you can go beyond the Jira default levels (sub-task level, base level, epic level). For example, if you have configured any additional issue type levels via the Advanced Roadmaps settings in Jira Software, you can now create a hierarchy that recognises these same levels in your sheets as well.
What's even more awesome, you can also create hierarchical structures based on issue link types, more specifically the inward and outward link descriptions.
As usual with JXL, your data never leaves your site, and this feature relies exclusively on your issue data, i.e. issue types and issue links (grouping by other fields is also coming soon). No additional fields are needed and the the setup is a breeze. You'll have your first hierarchy done in seconds.
It’s now available in JXL for Jira Cloud and JXL for Jira Data Center and Server, and of course works in all Jira products and in Cloud with both company-managed (classic) and team-managed (next-gen) projects. Check out the feature documentation for more details.
If you haven't already, take JXL for a spin for free for a month. Chances are you'll never want to go back. Grab a free trial here on the Atlassian Marketplace.
I hope this was a useful announcement (if so, you may want to follow our blog as well). If anyone has any questions, please get in touch or comment. We’d love to hear from you. Stay safe. ✌️
