Limiting Character Limit on a Text Field

Hi,

Is there a way to limit the amount of characters that can be entered into a text field?

I have a large workflow and doing this through each transition would take too long.. Is there a possible Script or other method to limit the characters that can be entered on a text field.

I can't change the jira.text.field.character.limit as I want this for a single project not the entire JIRA instance.
