Community Advisory Board Annual Report 2024

The Community Advisory Board was established in 2017 to amplify the voices of our Community Leaders within the Atlassian Community team. In 2020, we began publishing an annual report that provides insights into how the CAB has influenced the development of the Atlassian Community over the past year. I am excited to present the 5th installment of our Annual Report here. Interested in our previous reports? You can find them linked below for your convenience: 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.

The CAB is made up of seven Community Leaders, representing different community cohorts including Atlassian Marketplace Partners, Atlassian Solutions Partners, Atlassian Community Event organizers, Online Community Leaders, Creators and Certification SMEs.

We also have one seat reserved for an Emeritus Member who hasn’t served on the CAB within the past few years. CAB members serve for up to two years and emeritus members for one calendar year.

Over the course of 2024, the following folks served on the CAB:

Our 2024 outgoing Emeritus member was @Nic Brough -Adaptavist-, and incoming was @Susan Hauth _Jira Queen_ .

We hosted 10 CAB meetings alongside a special CAB Breakfast at Team in 2024, and attendees included representatives from Community Management, Certifications, Learning Programs, Community Programs, Community Operations, Champion Programs, Engineering, Design and Technical Program Managers from our Community Platform team, and the Community Leadership team. Notable moments and discussions included:

  • Community-Led Conferences was a frequent topic and an in-person meeting with CAB Members, and broader Community Leaders was held at Team ‘25 to discuss feedback on event support, speaker directory, content, budget and R&R. This feedback helped shape the revamped support we provide for XL Atlassian Community Events, and supported the hiring of additional team members to help support community events and content development, alongside Speaker Directory improvements.

  • Community Product (Design, TPM, Eng) gave regular updates on the connected Community & Learning experience that will go GA in March 2025.

  • The CAB weighed in opportunities to improve the structure and focus of CAB meetings sharing feedback on moving from one-off topics to a strengthened understanding of the Community team roadmap.

  • The CAB got a preview of the Team '24 experience for Community Leaders alongside our major announcements, including early access to our news about all on-demand learning becoming free!

  • Champion Programs presented our refreshed Perks & Rewards strategy that will be announced at Team ‘25 - CAB members' feedback on perks such as flights, hotel and experiences that allow Leaders to meet each other more regularly were just some of the key pieces of feedback that we were able to action.

  • CAB provided feedback on Atlassian Early Access Program experiences, and the Strategist team were able to take valuable feedback back to our Product Management and Product Marketing teams to be actioned for future EAPs.

  • Updated Partner Guidelines for our Online Community - CAB members helped develop an educational framework and updated system of documentation for Community Managers to act and track violations of the guidelines.

  • Bevy login experience - the CAB provided valuable feedback that helped us improve our communications and guidance for the change, and consider overall improvements to our change management process for future changes to our platforms and programs.

  • Event Leader Co-Lead Limit Removal - the CAB shared feedback with us on the consideration of removing the co-lead limit for chapters to allow new Community Leaders to join the program, and Chapters to receive more support.

The CAB also gave input on numerous community initiatives that have since shipped, are in development or under further consideration from the team:

  • Community Guidelines refresh - shipped Q2

  • New Certifications designations - shipped Q2

  • New level of 'Contributor’ on our Forums - shipped Q2

  • New pathways to Rising Star and Community Leader - ‘Author' and 'Facilitator' - shipped Q2

It's with immense satisfaction that I read the 2024 Community Advisory Board Annual Report. It was a true privilege to serve on the CAB this past two years and share the dais with esteemed Atlassian leaders and team. The opportunity to contribute to discussions and share use cases that directly impact the Atlassian University, Creators, and Community Portal experience has been incredibly rewarding.

@Lana Montgomery I want to express my sincere appreciation for the comprehensive report, which highlights the tangible impact of the CAB's work. The transparency in sharing the board's discussions and the resulting actions is truly commendable.

I'm particularly enthusiastic about the future initiatives under consideration, such as the Kudos program for Event Chapters and Champion programming for Students. These initiatives have the potential to further strengthen our community and empower the next generation of Atlassian users.

I wish incoming CAB members all the best in their upcoming term.
