Tracking points for sub-tasks/tasks completed in a sprint?

We want to to track progress (burn down chart) for work done in a sprint (sub-tasks) even if the story/bug itself is not closed.

Example: issue could be fixed but QA has not finished testing it in the sprint (so it is not "done").

I don't think Jira supports points on sub-tasks for the burn down chart and velocity reports. Is it worth creating upper level Task types and link them together so those items done can be counted?
