Themes in roadmaps

We are using Jira at work, and in our roadmap, our PO woudl like to use themes. When I look on the Atlassian page it made reference to look at the 'Report' tab. Our instance of Jira does not have this tab. We have 'Plans' where we can go to create roadmaps, and reports. But in there we still do not see where to create themes.

Does anyone know where to create Themes in Jira now on the roadmaps?

Hi @samuel_cherry

Themes used to be available in a previous version of Advanced Roadmaps (called Portfolio) - but are not available anymore.

I'd recommend either...

  • Modify the Issue Hierarchy, and add Theme above the current top layer (this is platform-wide)
  • Add a Custom Field where you can enter the themes, then filter against it. You could use a Select List, or a Labels field?

Hi @samuel_cherry & @Stephen Wright _Elabor8_

As Stephen as mentioned, this functionality is no longer available in Advanced Roadmaps - if you're interested in a bit more context on why this is the case, I'd suggest having a read of Dave's comment on a previous community post which goes into a bit more detail on when this was removed and why

@Stephen Wright _Elabor8_  and @Daniel Capizzi

How would the PO be able to complete these options that were mentioned above?

  • Modify the Issue Hierarchy, and add Theme above the current top layer (this is platform-wide)
  • Add a Custom Field where you can enter the themes, then filter against it. You could use a Select List, or a Labels field?

I suggested those as options to our PO, and they are not sure how to add these on there.

Hi @samuel_cherry

You'd need a Jira Admin to make these changes - often they work for your IT Services team or similar.

You may also like to pass on these docs if your company is new to Jira and needs some help getting these things setup!
