Initiatives usage

Māra Kārkliņa May 2, 2022

Hi!

Could you please advise, weather plug-in is needed for "Initiatives" usage in JIRA? If yes, which plug-in you could advise?

I want to group Epics and see expandable roadmap - Initiatives, Epics, Stories...

Thank you for answers!

Maybe you know if BigPicture plug in supports initiative level creation?

@Māra Kārkliņa -

You will need AR for Jira to create the issue hierarchy first.  Once the hierarchy configuration is established, then those other add-ons (i.e.BigPicture/Jira Align) come into play.

Hi @Māra Kārkliņa

You don't need Advanced Roadmap to create the desired hierarchy because BigPicture synchronizes directly with Jira. You can create high-level agile roadmaps and freely arrange WBS levels. Multi-level Work Breakdown Structures may be based on Jira issue attributes (e.g., Epic link, Component, Version, Sprint) or links.

This flexible approach will let you adjust settings to perfectly match your specific business needs and result in more effective project management.

Please find this short video tutorial on generating an automatic task structure.

Didn't know that BigPicture can works without AR for Jira.  AR for Jira is now a out of the box component if your Jira cloud subscription is at the Premium level (no additional add-on or costs)

Here is the reference for AR for Jira (this is being used by many Jira cloud/server based envs) - https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/get-started-with-advanced-roadmaps/

Hi @Māra Kārkliņa

You can use issue links to create your own hierarchy at any level.

To visualize the hierarchy based on the issue links, we have created an add-on to track the progress at each level,

Issue Hierarchy Reports

Key features:

  • Hierarchy upto 10 levels deep
  • Progress % on "remaining estimate" or "original estimates"
  • Edit Issue summary, time estimates, story points and assignee on the tree with real time updates in the progress
  • Rolled up percentage completion at all levels
  • Ability to add/remove the columns on the report

Disclaimer: I work for RVS, the vendor for this app, and I am one of the developers in the team

Hi Mara:

You will need Advanced Roadmap for Jira to establish custom issue hierarchy setup.  This add-on is a part of Jira Software Cloud (Premium subscription) free.

Hope this helps.

There are other plugins and tools, e.g. 'Structure for Jira':

And even 'Jira Align', although Jira Align may be "too much" depending of your use case (It provides a lot of functionalities for program and portfolio management, not just a new level of hierarchy)
