Hey everyone, I’m Rhys, a Product Manager for Jira Plans, and I’m here to announce an update to the Program Board that’s currently in open Beta.
Based on the feedback we’ve heard so far, we’ve prioritized – and are releasing today – an improvement that give you more flexibility in how the columns in your board are configured. You can now adjust:
These two variables can be used to change the overall duration of your Program board to between 7 and 16 weeks. Let’s look at some of the configuration options that are now available.
This board has 13 columns each lasting one week
If one column spans... | You can add between... | for a total duration of |
1 week | 7 to 13 columns | 7 to 13 weeks |
2 weeks | 5 to 8 columns | 10 to 16 weeks |
3 weeks | 4 to 5 columns | 12 to 15 weeks |
4 weeks | 3 to 4 columns | 12 to 16 weeks |
We set these limitations because the Program board is optimized for delivery plans focused on a quarterly timeframe, give or take.
Try it out and let us know how it works for your teams. Does it make your planning easier? What other features do you want to see? The Program board is still in open Beta, and we’d love to hear your feedback on what other improvements we can make before it fully rolls out.
Looking forward, the next major improvement we’ll be shipping is improvements to how we visualize dependencies in this view. Watch the Atlassian Cloud feature roadmap for updates on when that’s coming.
Until then, happy planning!
Rhys Christian
