When do initiatives dissapear from the scope view in portfolio?

Hi, 

When I play with the filter in Portfolio 'open and completed since X', the epics before that day does not show up in the scope view of portfolio. 

However, if I do this for initiatives, they still remain visible in the scope view, even if they are added after day X. 

 

How is this possible? When do Initiatives dissapear from the scope view?
