Today only List View is available when viewing a Filter. How do I see my Work Items in Detail View?

Steve Nienaber

I want to see my Work Items from a JQL as a Detailed list, but today, it only has the option to see in List View. Where do I see how to change the view to Detailed view?

These are the tiles I'm referencing:
Sandbox shows this:

List view and Detail View.png

Yet production shows this view - nothing between Share and the 3 dots:

No List or Detail View.png

I took a look at various prod and demo sites I have and was able to replicate it on one of them.

@Steve Nienaber and @jpratt probably the best course of action is to file a Support Ticket.

I'd also recommend telling them that others are seeing the same thing, and you could share your ticket ID here so you can add that to each others' ticket.

My site is a demo site, so I don't know if filing a ticket is appropriate, but feel free to tell them that I'm seeing it on this https://one-atlas-iwri.atlassian.net/ site.

Hello @Steve Nienaber

Click the Detail View button.

The above is from the Search Work Items screen.

The button is also available in the List tab.

Please see screen shots above contrasting what is in Sandbox and production. I am familiar with what you are showing, but it's not available for me in Production per the pic.

Thank you for that additional information @Steve Nienaber

I have not found a system where the buttons are missing. I also tried zooming out and zooming in to see if the buttons were getting squashed or hidden, but there was no change.

Can you confirm that is coming from a screen that uses a URL like this:

https://yourcompany.atlassian.net/issues/?jql=

Can you also let us know which browser app you are using?

Have you tried clearing your browser cache, using a private browser window, or a different browser app to access the production instance?

jpratt

Same issue on my end as well, I no longer have access to the detail view. I've tried clearing my cache and using both Chrome and Safari. This on both named filters and non named filters

Ok I started to file a support ticket for the demo site where I replicated what @Steve Nienaber and @jpratt were seeing, and the AI Support Bot actually directed me to the right answer:

We are getting the new Preview Panels as part of the new Jira work item search experience. Specifically:

Preview Panels will soon replace the detail view in Jira’s Global Search and List views

@Amanda Sacks wrote on Feb 24, 2026:

A new preview panel experience is coming to Jira’s global search and List views that will replace the detail view.

⏱️ A more efficient way to preview work quickly

Previewing work and related context is slow and disruptive today, forcing you to bounce between full-screen views or open multiple new tabs just to gather the information you need.

Preview panels in the List will cut that friction by letting you open work items and related content inline to quickly scan details, read linked Confluence pages, and take action without ever losing your place in the List view.

By keeping you in context while you review and act on work, we’ll make it easier to understand dependencies, reduce tab overload, and speed up everyday workflows.

✨ What’s changing

Detail view is going away

When using Jira’s global search or List view, you could toggle between the List and detail view.

So uh, yeah. It's a new UI change.

Darryl Lee

So of course my next question will be: Was this announced in Release Notes?

Uhm...

Kind of:

From the new Community Release Notes:

Preview work items with resizable panels (Rollout schedule: Starting in May 2026)

"Jira is replacing the detail view in the List view and Global Search with a resizable preview panel."

From ye olde Cloud Changes Blog:

First appeared in the May 11-18, 2026 post:
Preview work items with resizable panels

For those of us on Bundled Release Track, I see this in Admin Administration under:

Apps->Platform experiences->Release management->App updates (whew!)

And it's definitely not in any of the emailed Release Track notes I've gotten in the last year:

Unofficial Atlassian Release Tracks Notes

Darryl Lee

Oh. I figured it out. It's a new feature.

Please see my answer above.

Darryl Lee

'twould be good to know when we're going to get this in Release Tracks.

ALSO, since Atlassian loves to copy Google (see: collaborative editing in Confluence), could I suggest they actually copy something USEFUL from Google and provide "breadcrumbs" (oh don't get me started about Confluence breadcrumbs) that would lead users from the OLD location for button to the new one.

I wish I or somebody else had a screenshot, but I'm fairly certain that when Google Sheets moved the Page Setup option out of the File menu, they had a message that popped up when your mouse was in the area where the option used to be, saying something of the effect of:

Page Setup is now under Print

(It's also under Download -> PDF.)

I will attempt to mock up what I think it looked like:

Here's how you could do this for a change like this one in Jira:

(I'm sure the fine designers at Atlassian could make it snazzier with a drop shadow or something. And Rovo can improve the wording, since they probably don't have any technical writers left. :-(

Steve Nienaber

Than you.

As a note to Atlassian, this is not a good user experience as it requires more clicks than List View.

Juan Carlos Pin

HI! I sent feedback to them regarding this, for the buttons to choose side panel / list dissapeated before my eyes on a refresh. Not cool at all 😥

Welcome!
