Passing a lookupObject that contains a special character

I am setting up some automation rules that involve searching the assets library.

I am searching an employee table to pull a department attribute from the table.

That AQL looks like this

objectType = "Internal" AND "Email Address" = {{reporter.emailaddress}}

 

Then I'm performing another Lookup objects and passing that value to get data from another table containing department information

objectType = "Department Owners" AND department = {{lookupObjects.Department}}

This works unles the department has an & or other special character.

Is there a way to escape have this value automatically escape special characters?

{{lookupObjects.Department}}

Some things to try are to first wrap that smart value in double-quotation marks before comparing to the Department field, and if more is needed try using one of the encoding functions that will escape that text: https://support.atlassian.com/cloud-automation/docs/jira-smart-values-text-fields/
