👋 Hi Atlassian Community peeps!
The idea of third place - a place that's not your home (first place) or workplace (second place) where one spends a lot of time is true for a lot of people, including me.
My third place tends to be a cafe or coffee shop, depending on what city I'm in, and my mood!
For this week's Welcome Wednesday, my question is: Do you frequent cafes or coffee shops? Are you a regular at any of these places?
📢 Shout out your favorites in the comments, and let us know why we should visit! ☕️

I love Barefoot!!! Good choice
It's nice to see you again @Dave LIAO
I love that you brought this up, we had a quick chat about coffee during the Builders Summit in California recently. I have to be biased here and I have to mention my husband's specialty coffee shop! Located in Portland, Oregon with two locations and in Amherst, MA. It's called Futura Coffee Roasters.
Hope you can make it to the beautiful PNW soon so I can show you around.
We even hosted an ACE in one of them with the awesome @Dean Schaffer :)
Hope to see you at team so we can have some fun times with @Katie Lai - Seibert again
Since you have mentioned @MJ Valencia -drawio diagrams- we would love to try Futura Coffee Roasters when we visit Portland next time! 🙂
@Anwesha Pan I'd love that so much! If you're ever in Portland soon, please reach out to me. I'd be more than happy to grab a coffee with you (and maybe some Colombian pastries) over a good chat :)
I would love that @MJ Valencia -drawio diagrams-
Yes, we try to visit cafes, if not often then at least occasionally, as dates 😍 (w/o kids 🤭).
My husband and I are both coffee lovers. ☕ We enjoy exploring local cafes in our area as well as when we travel. We also like trying their different bakery items 🥐🍩
Our local favorites include: (Seattle and around)
I do love a good "work from a cafe" day! Recently I've been hitting up spots that are within walking distance from my place (a luxury in LA!) and bringing my dog to sit on the patio :)
Been loving Intelligentsia
and gotta shout out my neighbor's bakery, all of her sweet treats are incredible! Top Tier Treats
Our favorite local coffee shop is Stone Creek Coffee! I love that they are a B Corp and prioritize learning. My husband and I have taken classes there to learn coffee art and such.
So many good tips for coffee shops here. But no-one has mentioned any chains yet? I'll just leave that out there
Some time ago, we discovered a lovely little café in our city that quickly became one of our favorites. They serve excellent coffee, and it’s very welcoming for kids as well.
What makes it even more special is that it’s a K-pop themed place, and my daughter is a big fan of such music, so now it’s our go-to spot every time we go somewhere around with her 😊
The closest I've got to a third place is Copper Beech Cafe in Dulwich, it's actually in a sports club, JAGS Sports Club , that's attached to a local school, JAGS.
Although it's attached to a Sports Club it's very much a local café, and a great place to get my morning coffee when my daughter is having her swimming lesson.
What's weird is, I'm a born Berliner, have lived my whole life here and don't have a favorite coffee shop. However, in Barcelona, I do because whenever I went there for business trips (Team 24 & 25, other Atlassian events) I went to the same coffee shop.
The place is called Kafenion, the staff is extremely nice, the vibe is rustic, reminds me of Berlin, the owner was very cool too and we had a nice conversation about god and the world. They have shops around Europe, one in Amsterdam where it started I think, and one in Greece as the owner is a Greek and they finally opened a new shop there.
Nice looking machine! I always look at coffee shop's online images to see if I can spot a decent looking machine
Gee, @Dave LIAO, thanks for pointing out how boring my life is. 😀
I've worked from home for the past 6 years, so I don't even have a second place. And during these 6 years, I think I've only even gone out for lunch on a workday 4 or 5 times, let alone taken time to go out for coffee.
When I was younger and lived in other places, I did generally have a pub where I was a regular, eating and hanging out with friends a few times a week.
