Welcome Wednesday: School's out, Summer Camps!

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Tomorrow, is my son’s last day of school. Since we moved last summer and this was his first year here, it’s heart-warming to see how many close friends he has made already and I know that will only continue year over year.

Now, the end of the school year is the beginning of Summer Day Camp. Last year, my son met one of his best friend’s at school while at camp, and we are hoping that he will meet more friends there again this year.

My question for all the parents out there: Do you have your kids involved in any camps during the summer? If not, what other ways do you keep your little ones (or maybe no so little ones) entertained. If you don’t have kids, do you have any vacation plans? or are you saving your days for later?

I don't have kids, so no camp plans here 😄 As for vacation - I’m actually saving my days for something exciting later this year: I hope to get visa to attend Atlassian Team ’25 in Barcelona!
Super excited for the experience, and hopefully I’ll get to meet some of you there if you’re traveling for the same reason.

Great to hear that your son met his best friend at camp last year - that shows how worthwhile it is :-)

I don't have any kids so no camps for me - already had a week in the Faroe Islands this month; off to Ireland for a week in July; and Poland in December.  Not bad for someone who historically never books any holidays :D

No kids here, but I’m hoping to squeeze in a bit of travel abroad this summer and also take advantage of the nice weather to explore more of Estonia too. I’ve also set aside some time to focus on certifications: planning to start with the ACA ones, then hopefully tackle an ACP cert in August. A mix of rest and learning! ☺️📚

Hope your son makes lots of great new friends at Summer Day Camp! :) Summer is the perfect time for kids to connect — no school obligations, just fun.

My daughter used to attend a day camp too, and she absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, she studies online now, so a day camp isn't an option for us anymore. Luckily, she has an amazing grandma who’s always up for fun and best friends living right next door. So, there is no chance for boredom :)

@Jimmy Seddon That’s so heartwarming, kudos to your son for settling in and making great friends already! No kids here yet, but my niece is off to art camp (again) and somehow ends up painting the dog every year 😂

I’m saving a few vacation days for a monsoon break myself, will probably go for a hike or something. Wishing your son an awesome time at camp!

I am not sure how things are there, but I am in India and here summer holidays are ending this week. In terms of keeping Kids involved, what I have done is bought some books and games of there choice. Also I have enrolled my kid in swimming class as she was interested in that. And all this is apart from Summer camp of 2 weeks.

My kids are involved in so many different activities in the summer to keep them busy. Unfortunately, that also means I'm kept busy as their chauffeur! 🚕🙃 My youngest is doing some really fun enrichment summer school activities including a performance of The Lion King Kids - can't wait to see how it turns out - she's playing Rafiki. Both kiddos go to an art camp together and Girl Scouts day camp is thrown in there, too. There's also a weeklong cheer camp for my youngest. Plus, my oldest got her first job working at some root beer stands at the local festivals.

We are going camping over this next weekend, but otherwise we just have a few days sprinkled throughout the summer that we are doing things as a family. I like to save vacation days for escaping the cold. 😉 This summer is a big transition as both kids will be moving up a school next year - one heading to middle school and the other to high school. Eep!

Both boys are now young men and grown and married. I took off last Friday and my wife and I and our oldest son and his wife (our daughter-in-law) went to Idaho for Friday and Saturday for a vintage market days there. There were antiques, crafts, home food creations, among other things. Very enjoyable despite driving there and home in the rain. 

No more planned vacations for the summer, though we just bought a house! We clone on July 21 so that will keep us busy, Then we plan on visiting our youngest son in Germany later this fall where he is stationed. 

When they were younger, 5 of those years we were in Bolivia in various places. And no camps really in the US. Most of the time they spent outside playing with friends. Others in the neighborhood (wherever that neighborhood tended to be) tended to congregate outside at our house for fun and games of various sorts.

Happy Wednesday! I don’t have kids, but I’m hoping to take a little time off this summer maybe a short trip in Europe, I'm saving my vacation time for Costa Rica end of the year. Hope you and your kids have lots of fun this summer!
