Welcome Wednesday: Does you bake any Christmas Goodies?

Wednesday.gif

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Growing up, it was a yearly tradition that my sister and I would help my mom with a bunch of the Christmas baking. My wife and I have tried to continue that same tradition. One thing we make sure to do each year is bake home made gingerbread men. Both of my kids love using the cookie cutters to cut them out and put them on the tray. Then they really enjoy decorating them and eating them.

My question for you this week, and it doesn’t have to be exclusive to Christmas: Do you have any traditional baking that you do at a particular holiday? If so, tell us about it! (bonus points for pictures).

I will post some pictures once I have them, we are getting gingerbread dough today though a fundraiser at the kids school.

Have a great week everyone!

For decades, I made Russian Tea Cookies every Christmas because they were my dad's favorite. As he's gotten older though (84 yesterday!), he tends to inhale the powder sugar when he takes a bite, so I've stopped. This year, I might make them again, but only roll them in powder sugar once, instead of twice so that he can enjoy them again.

Thanks for making me think of this, @Jimmy Seddon. Have fun making the gingerbread cookies!

I definitely do more traditional eating than baking 😅😏.

Our traditions are (1) Gingerbread houses, (2) indoor flour snow!

We normally try and avoid 2, but there was the year when we my girlfriend left our daughter in the kitchen for a moment to answer the door an came back to a 'wonderful indoor snow scene!'  Luckily that was a small kitchen and the it was only later we found some flour and water mix hardened under the fridge.

But for the Gingerbread Houses, my daughter has playdates around Christmas where she and her friends make Gingerbread Houses and I then have to get a friend and a not quite set Gingerbread House back to the child's parents!  Luckily that's not happening this year until next Wednesday.

I may have mixed feelings about the different holiday periods (and all the rush that happens around them), but I do love to prepare food for friends and family.

Christmas cookies are no exception, and especially this version of them 🤭

Every year, we bake a bunch of Christmas-special cupcakes 🎄🧁 in chocolate and vanilla, along with a rich chocolate-walnut cake 🍫🎂. It’s a tradition we've lovingly kept alive for 20 years! ✨🎅
