Welcome Wednesday: Do you enjoy watching thunderstorms?

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

This past weekend, we had a pretty significant thunderstorm. Had I been thinking about it, I would have tried to capture some video. In the past when we had dogs in the house, we always had to comfort them being anxious about the noises. However, this past weekend my son and I just watched everything from our large bay window.

My question for you this week: When a thunderstorm is happening, do you enjoy watching it? or would you prefer for it to pass as quickly as possible.

Personally, I rather enjoy watching the storm, the sound of thunder doesn’t bother me (as long as I’m inside). My wife and I have been caught running for shelter in a lightning storm and under those circumstances I’m less inclined to want to stop and watch the storm happening.

Our family clamors for the seats on the couch facing our front window during a good thunderstorm. Living close to the water we can really watch a storm roll in from a distance and watch the sky darken, begin to see the lightning illuminating the clouds and hear the rumble of thunder from miles away. 

Fun fact - we have a blessing that is said on Thunder and on Lightning - which makes each storm a religious experience!

Watching the thunderstorms is the best thing you can do with your pants on! As long as nobody gets hurt or nothing gets damaged.

I think you can say that I love watching thunderstorms. Especially those in the night when a bolt of lightning is illuminating the whole city! Love it! I was lucky with this one here:

To be honest… I really don’t like thunderstorms at all 😅 I don’t like how they look, and the loud noise scares me! Thunder sounds like someone is dropping furniture from the sky, and lightning is just way too bright.

It feels like the weather is angry and wants everyone to know it. 😂

If I’m safe inside with snacks and a blanket, maybe I’ll watch for a minute… but deep down, I’m just waiting for it to be over!

Love watching thunder storms.

When I flew back from South Africa a few years ago, it was a night flight and there were plenty of electric storms over Africa - most other people were sleeping, not me, I was glued to the window - was amazing watching from above (needless to say, I'm not a nervous flier LOL)

I love watching and love being under thunderstorms, as silly and unsafe as it may sound. I have a few hiking experiences that ended up with rain and thunderstorms, and every time I have spent some minutes admiring the power of nature before heading my way back to safety.

Well, also hoping the thunders have other plans than chasing me.

I love a good thunderstorm - which appears to be in the weather here in Milwaukee for today. I will say, it does make for better napping weather than working weather. 😅

I don't have any pictures, but a couple of years ago I took my kiddo to a concert in Michigan at an outdoor amphitheater that was nestled into a hill. There was a lightning storm behind the stage a bit so we were safe to stay for the concert AND we got an amazing "show" from the lightning.

Love watching a storm. When I was little we would sit in the garage and watch the lightning show.

I love it! There’s something magical about that moment when the wind picks up and the leaves flip over like they’re bracing for impact. Before storms, I used to count the seconds between lightning and thunder to figure out how far away it was – classic mini-meteorologist mode.

It brought back memories of those good old power outages in the area. No internet (~2000), no lights… just brains and boredom. So we played survival games like: "Name a thing starting with the last letter of the previous one."

As for lightning shows – hands down, Greece takes the trophy. I've seen storms in Poland, the USA, Spain, and Thailand, but nothing beats the Greek drama in the sky. Zeus-level production.

I find them fascinating and oddly meditative. The goosebumps from the lightning combined with the constant tapping of raindrops always get me. Just thinking about it gives me a mix of warmth and chills! ⚡

I love watching storms. I have not experienced a good one since 2016. Storms in Missouri are powerful and full of thunder, while storms in California are not quite as exciting. My kids would love watching too.

I love watching a thunderstorm when I am safe and cozy at home. This time of year we get quite a few thunderstorms in south Florida. I'm not as fond of them when they creep up while I am driving home from the office. 🌩️🌩️

Love thunderstorms and lightening, especially with a steady rain! We watch them from our (covered) balcony as they come in or even in the distance and really enjoy them. I feel bad for animals who are scared because they don't know what's going on and it's loud; sometimes birds fly under the balcony overhang and wait until the storm subsides, so we try to stay still and not scare them off. Maybe they feel safter with the humans than out in the storm.

Hell nah! If the storm is far away, then it's fine. If there are lightning strikes around, I usually sneak to a room without windows (or I just shut down all blinds) and wait for it to pass 😅

I love watching storms ⛈️, ideally from a covered porch or just inside through a window if the winds are too strong to be outside at all.
