Throwback Thursday: special relative in your life? #TBT

It's Thursday!
giphy
This is my son and my great aunt, Jakobína. She married my grandfather's brother. She lived to be a 100 years old. She was a wonderful person and I would often visit her on Sundays, after I got my drivers license. Being a direct and to the point kind of person, she also had a huge heart. She was always very nice to me. Sharp as a whistle all the way to the end. I could also be very frank with her and ask for advise. I miss her. This is my son on the picture with her.

Mine is 2 people; my Auntie Betty and Uncle Mac.

They weren't really my Uncle and Aunt, I think it was more Great Uncle and Aunt.

When my parents moved to New Zealand before I was born, the only family they had there was Auntie Betty and Uncle Mac (plus their children), so when I was born Auntie Betty and Uncle Mac acted as my surrogate grandparents.

Uncle Mac lived to be 101 and was really proud of the Telegram he got from the Queen on his 100th Birthday.  There was a 100th birthday family gathering for him with all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren which we went to as well.  Unfortunately that was the last time I saw them as he passed away the next year and Auntie Betty the year after.

What a beautiful story, @Kristján Geir Mathiesen 💙 Your great aunt sounds like such a special person — strong-minded but also full of kindness. That photo with your son is truly heartwarming.

For me, I often think about my maternal grandfather. He always had the most fascinating stories from his youth and endless patience to listen and give advice. He taught me to appreciate the little things in life and to never lose my curiosity. Even today, many of his sayings still guide me.

Thank you for bringing up this topic — it’s wonderful to remember those people who leave such a lasting impact on us. 🌟

All of my relatives are special - they are family - HA! Aside from my siblings, and in regards to living relatives, it would be my Aunt Loraine. She turned 97 this year and served as a flight nurse in WWII.

For me, all my relatives are special... family is the core. But if I need to choose one person, probably, it is my great-grandmother - a big part of my childhood I spent with her :)

My special relative is my great aunt, and even though she's already over 90 years old, she still manages to light up the whole room ✨

I once asked my father how it's possible for one person to be so positive and make everyone around them smile, and he said: “True positivity comes from within - you just have to find it in yourself.” 💛
