Throwback Thursday: old watch? #TBT

It's Thursday!

giphy

I got this fine, gold Timex watch as a Christmas present in December of 1987 - whoppin' 37 & 1/2 years ago! I need to find a new battery for it.

I think my kids gave this retro Casio watch about 10 years ago. I use it frequently:

Soooo, want to tell us about some of your old watches?
Let’s make it a great Thursday!

Those watches might have significantly increased in value.  I'm not sure, but I know there are watch collectors that would pay a pretty penny for these relics.  Great finds!  Personally, I would hold onto them if they have sentimental value as they were given to you as gifts from your children.  If I saw someone wearing these, it could be a great ice-breaker for starting conversations too.

I have only moved on from one watch that I have owned over my lifetime, and I gave it to my cousin because he was always late.  It was a Casio G-Shock, that I am sure is still serving its purpose pending battery replacements.  I don't think any of my watches increase in value like other collectors items.  They're just in collections of mine :)

Who remembers the old Swatch watches in the 80's?  Yup ~ look at this beauty!  I think I even had one of those rubber guards on top.  haha

The oldest watch I have was a gift from an ex-boyfriend many years ago. It's a fancy Movado watch, but needs a new battery which costs more than I care to pay. My husband actually gave me a new one for our wedding which I wore for many years, but have since upgraded to a smart/fitness watch. Both old watches no longer have batteries and I don't see myself wearing a basic watch at this point anyway. How would I ever get notified that my phone is ringing or I've receive a notification? 🤪

Talk about sparking some memories! These time pieces were well loved and well worn back in the day. I didn't keep any of my old watches but the Timex, Casio and Swatch are all very familiar models. Maybe not the exactly what I wore but definitely close.

A watch with a second hand was essential as a bedside nurse...counting heart rate, respirations, labor contractions, rate of manual drug administration over a given amount of time, and so on. With the advent of many technologies in health care, this data is captured electronically and/or the user has access to online timers. Change...

Fond memories!

Hi

I have my first Mickey Mouse watch that I bought at Disney World Park in Florida, and although it doesn't fit me now and is broken, I keep it as one of my greatest treasures, because it was my first watch and I have a huge affection for it.

Regards

Casio watches were a must-have in the '80s, but in the '90s, Swatch watches arrived and made you feel cool. I still have some in some drawer. Their colors were fanatstic

I have a couple of old battery-based watches in my jewelry box, though I'm not sure why. It's not like I'm going to get new batteries and start wearing them. I also have progressed to the fitness watch.

I do remember my first watch, though: a Timex that I wound daily—no battery involved. I got it when I turned 11. I remember my mom asking me a couple of weeks before my Christmas birthday, "Do you want a watch for your birthday and a baseball mitt for Christmas or the other way around?"

I have a drawer full of watches, most within the last 30 years, so nothing super old.  It used to be that I'd get 1 or 2 watches a year as gifts, and they would just go into this drawer.  I do have a collection of watches from relatives who have passed, those go into a safer location.

I don't wear watches or jewelry of any kind.  No real reason, just never got the point of it. Sometimes I'll use the industrial safety excuse, but that probably isn't the reason.  I did try to get into the smart watch phase, but that ended up in the drawer after a few months.

I love wearing watches ⌚

I've been wearing them since elementary school. I remember other kids asking all the time, "When will the bell ring?" 😅

I'm not remembering my first watch, but the one I've been wearing for quite some time was a Casio model that was part digital, part analog. It had some cool features like showing all different time zones and the current time in each. Unfortunately, the bracelet broke a couple of years ago, and my dad gave me one of his Casio watches (as he got the new one), so I've been wearing that one since then.

The most fun watch I ever owned was all black with a black face and no numbers and it ran backwards. The really cool thing about it was that all three hands were different neon colors and were offset from the center of the face by black stems, so the hands were at odd angles and looked like they were floating over the face. Once I got used to it, it was easy to tell time; the worst part was that when I bought it, I had just landed in Germany on my first international trip and I had no idea what time it was anyway! 🤣 Wish I still had it, it was fun.
