Throwback Thursday: old criminal records #TBT

It's Thursday!

giphy

I was flipping through the photo album and this paper fell out of it. It is a print out from 4th of July 1990 of a criminal record, showing my only criminal record offense, at least so far in my life. Not sure why I had to get a copy of my criminal record nor why I kept it.

I think it was in 1989, when we were 19, that the "crime" took place. We wanted to get into dance places and bars but you have to be 21 years old to do that in Iceland. Somebody in the group got the idea to create new drivers licenses with fake dates. So we did! Except I was the only one caught and hauled off to the police station. Document forgery, I think it was that I got booked for. In our naivety, we just wanted to dance and meet girls...

Sooooo, I totally understand if you don't want to reveal your past out here on the internetsies so just tell us about a "friend" who got into minor trouble :) Please nothing heavy or crazy. Just some misdemeanor.

Let’s make it a great Thursday!

Hi Kristján, nothing too crazy on my side haha. I don't have a criminal record and I'll keep trying my best to keep it clean for now.

It was a stressful time...

  • We were building a new hospital.
  • I was leading the clinical IT team preparing for the big move in less than a month.
  • My leader and I had a rocky relationship.
  • I was snarky driving to work on a Saturday for my annual evaluation which was 2 months past due.

Totally distracted, not paying attention, I ran a red light T-boned the car of a kind older gentleman in front of the police station! Oh my word, I felt horrible, absolutely GUILTY of reckless driving.

On the date of my court appearance, I was prepared to be reprimanded, pay a fine and have a serious penalty on my driving record. The officer did not show. My case was dismissed without any fine, without any charges. I went to my car crying over the grace and mercy I had just been gifted.

I have kept the driving citation as a reminder to choose forgiveness!

Thank you for prompting the memory @Kristjan Geir Mathiesen - Origo

No records on my side either. The closest I've come to being 'recorded' was a speeding ticket 2 years ago, as I was speeding near my new house. Nothing major, but the fine was to be around 150 Euros and 2 points on the driver's license. However, as I didn't have any previous offences, I've got out with a 1-year warning with a police officer saying, "Consider this a housewarming gift" 😅

Posting proof of criminal activity on social media doesn't strike me as a wise move.

True @Shawn Doyle - ReleaseTEAM and I thought about this for a bit. My record is so old that is has been purged and I paid my dues.

That is why I wrote: "Sooooo, I totally understand if you don't want to reveal your past out here on the internetsies so just tell us about a "friend" who got into minor trouble :) Please nothing heavy or crazy. Just some misdemeanor. " But I realize that people might not want to share on here...

No criminal record here either. Though I did get hauled in to the local university police station with a couple of other guys the summer between our junior and senior years. We just trying to be nice and talk to some girls there at band camp, and their counselors got all mad. But they let us go after talking with our parents.

The trick now is to keep @Jack Brickey to just one criminal conviction story.

Well, not much of a record. Thought the first ten years of living in the US, I did get about one traffic ticket per year. Plenty of goofiness as a young man that I'm relieved no-one official came to know about, but that's true for most of us I would guess

Hi

I was very good and the truth is I have no crimes and I don't know any friend who has committed any.

Regards

I think I've only received a speeding ticket once, but the funny story behind it is that I found out about it years later. I was renewing my driver's license when the system said, "You have an unpaid fine of XX amount." This was happening at the local traffic police department, where they issue licenses, and I said to the receptionist that I was hearing this for the first time and would gladly pay it immediately.

Turned out this happened sooooo long ago, that the fine was already outdated :D So I never paid anything, and thus, I may have remained "innocent" of any criminal deeds, haha.

Love this story 😄 My “friend's” biggest crime might be a slight addiction to forgetting to activate parking in the parking app... more times than they'd like to admit.

No fake IDs, no document forgery - just an ongoing battle with those little parking zone signs! 😅

Haha, that’s such a classic story — all for the love of music and good times! 😄 Props for sharing it so openly. I’ll have to ask a “friend” if they’ve ever done something similar… 😉

We live in a time where it's dangerous to even go to a Coldplay concert, let alone start writing our crimes online :))))))))))))
