Throwback Thursday: fun food stories? #TBT

It's Thursday!
giphy

You guys ready for a funny, ironical food story? This is a true story! Five years ago, in the middle of Covid, my wife and I tried this new membership from Walmart. Free home delivery with a minimum order of $35. It is Thursday night, we are deciding what to have for Friday dinner. I suggest pizza. Since my wife takes the truck to work, we wanted to make sure we had all the ingredients. Well, we were out of pepperoni. However, I wanted to have the pizza ready when Sóley came home on Friday. Therefore, I was going to do a quick run to the store that night to purchase the Pepperoni. Then my wife said: "Hey, lets just order it and have it delivered for free!" I´m like "Heck yeah, you are so smart!" So we order the Pepperoni and the other things that were on our list. Got up to $27 but the minimum order is $35 so we add some chicken & fizzy water that is always good to have but we really didn't need at this moment.

Friday noon rolls around and the door bell rings. Júhú, the delivery is here! I quickly put it all away and in the fridge, then go back to work. At 5 o'clock I start my pizza preparations by getting all the ingredients out (the dough is already in process). Well, guess what?!?!?

The package I took from the fridge and should have been pepperoni was a hard Salami package - not Pepperoni! The only thing in our entire order (mind you, not a very big order) that was substituted was the Pepperoni :) #irony

I learned how to cook when my mom started working outside the home when I was a teenager—my older sister and I took turns cooking dinner when we got home from school. I, therefore, learned how to cook for 8 people.

When I lived by myself in The Netherlands, I mentioned to my colleague that I was getting tired of eating chicken soup for lunch and dinner 3 days in a row. He asked why I hadn't made a smaller pot of soup. When I told him because you have to put in enough water to cover a whole chicken when starting to cook, he said, "Why don't you use a cut up chicken?" Hmmm, I never thought of that; my mom always bought a whole chicken to make soup (for 8 people). It never occurred to me that I could actually use 4 pieces of cut up chicken and make a smaller pot of soup. 🫢

I can't think of any funny things right now hand - it will probably come to me later. But when we were in Dubai, you can get pretty much anything delivered to you - food, groceries, fuel/petrol, etc. But you could also have a delivery person pick up something from you and take it to someone else. Letters, furniture, boxes, whatever pretty much.

So some friends offered to make dinner one night for us after some illness we had. It was a nice home cooked meal, but sure enough, it was brought by a delivery company! We ate the delicious food, cleaned up the cookware they had sent it in, and gave it back to them the next time we saw them.

A few weeks ago, my daughter asked me to make two types of cupcake for her Spanish class party for Dia de los Muertos. I woke up early in the morning to get started so they'd have time to cool and I could frost them during my lunch. I opted for the easy route with a box mix and hurriedly mixed up the batter. I thought it seemed a bit thick, but haven't made anything with a box mix in a LONG time except for brownies. I managed to scoop all the batter into the cupcake wrappers and even put the first batch in the oven, before realizing I just completely missed the water on the "ingredients" list when I was starting to mix the next batch's batter. My husband tried to help by mixing a little water into each cup in the second pan that hadn't made it to the oven yet, but alas the whole batch was just gross - haha! This is why you should never bake before coffee... ☕️
