Throwback Thursday: favorite summer refreshing beverage from the past? #TBT

It's Thursday!

I can't believe it is Thursday already! The week just flew by really fast. 

When I was growing up in Iceland in the late 70's and 80's, there was a juice concentrate that my parents would purchase: Egils þykkni.

I couldn't find an old picture but this is how it looks today. Wasn't the best. To me it tasted a bit like tiny flavored water. But then there was the other alternative, which I liked much better: frozen concentrate. I remember making this in the summer! Good memories.

I grew up on Kool-aid!

You know the small packet of coluorful crystals that you would dump a cup of sugar on and full with water!

I liked the limeade juice concentrate mix my dad would get.

When I was in high school (and sugar didn't matter lol), I used to drink the red sprite remix. It tasted like a strawberry skittle and I loved it! It was over 20 years ago and they have come out with something similar but nothing quite like it.

I know it's not a beverage exactly, but a cold watermelon is the most refreshing thing, and it's very juicy, so almost a beverage...

Like @Jimmy Seddon, we went through a lot of Kool-Aid at our house. I'm not sure if it was only in the summer, but that's how I remember it.

My all-time favorite soda is the Swedish "Pommac". It has been the same recipe since 1919. Fruity taste and golden color. Stored in oak barrels which adds a unique taste. For a short period of time it was also available as a icecream. *nostalgia*

Since I was little, I've always liked lemon slush, it's incredible and now that it's hot I've started drinking it because I really enjoy it.

I'm going with Cedevita - Croatian instant powdered vitamin drink. Just drop a couple of ice cubes and it can really cool you down :)

However, if you visit the seaside during summer, you'll probably notice Pipi > which is a carbonated drink with orange flavor. 🍊 It's quite famous there, but I'm not sure what all the fuss is about 😅

OMG @Sara Schneider you just brought back some tangy memories with the mention of Sprite ReMix!

@Jimmy Seddon and @Amanda Barber Kool-Aid was not kosher when we were younger, and I was always jealous of my friends that seemed to suck it down.

For me, it was what the camps lovingly referred to as bug juice. This was some sort of cherry or lemon flavored concentrate that they used to mix in 45 gallon garbage cans and we would all scoop pitchers full out of. I cannot fathom doing that today, but back then I guess we were all germ free.

In my adult years, a good Summer Ale is what gives me the summer feels. Brooklyn Brewery and Sam Adams both have good ones.
