Throwback Thursday: Merry Christmas! #TBT

It's Thursday!

For those of you celebrating Christmas, I want to say happy Christmas! In Iceland, we have 13 santa clauses and each has his name and trait. My wife has collected them all:

I hope you will have a wonderful time with your family, friends, and loved ones this weekend and holiday season. Tell us about a good memory you have around this time of year.

Oh, there's nothing like being a kid, waking up after Santa came and creeping downstairs in the middle of the night to see presents came!

Then of course it's the next challenge of playing with them while being extremely quiet and hopefully not waking up your parents.

Happy festive season to you, and while you interact with 13 santa clauses i will celebrate 2 christmasses (gregorian & julian calendar) in the country of '13 month sunshine' .

As a kid, we always stayed with my maternal grandmother when we went to Buffalo, NY, for Christmas. She lived at one end of a long city block. At the other end was the Catholic school and convent where my mom went to high school.

We would always walk down for midnight mass, my brothers making sure my grandma didn't slip on the icy sidewalk. Before mass, the nuns from the convent would travel around the church singing Christmas carols in Polish, English, and Latin.

After mass, we would walk back and then eat our traditional Christmas Eve meal of kielbasa (fresh and smoked), cheese blintzes, ham, macaroni salad, potato salad, and rye bread—at about 2AM! Then we'd just go to sleep to be all ready for Christmas day.

Nowadays, we eat this meal at about 6PM, and I have trouble sleeping because of heartburn. Don't know how we did it at 2AM all those years!

A favorite childhood memory is when we'd stay up late on Christmas Eve. We'd go to a neighborhood called Candy Cane Lane and then return to my grandparents house where Santa (my grandpa) would visit us before we went home and to bed. ❤️

I have plenty of memories from being a kid at Christmas! My parents always made it special for us! But my new favorite memory is of Enchant! My sister and I did a double date last Saturday night to dinner and Enchant. I have never in my life been surrounded by so many lights! The photo does not do it justice.
