The Role of Community In my Tech Journey so far

In 2019, I attended my first tech event and became part of the Meta Developer Circles in Port Harcourt Nigeria.

In 2020 I attended an Atlassian event and became part of the Atlassian Community, since then I have been an active member of the community, in my journey so far, becoming part of a tech community was a huge boost to my growth.

I got to meet people who, I could learn from, get resources from and even get a road map.

Meeting like minds in the tech community and even people that are better than me was a great deal for me. I was shy at first and I could hardly socialize, but the community gave me a platform to express my self and even speak at events or write about events. 

It was a plus for me I was picking up soft skills subconsciously in the community, while i polish my technical skills at home. At the time I was a computer operator in the Nigerian Navy as a young adult. 

The community makes you Know you are not alone in your tech journey. Most gigs and opportunities i have gotten, even landing my first tech job was through the help of some one I met in the community.

Somedays, I sit back and  wonder what if i continued writing codes inside my room, what if i never came out of the shadows to meet others like me?

To be honest before physical meetups it felt like i was alone in this tech world even though i saw tech people online on #Twitter mostly (and today there is #threadapp) Meeting physically was a great deal for me.

I got informed, exposed, enlighten, i had people i could use as my bench mark even though some were not aware. I got connections and i was able to measure my self worth with the outside world.

Initially it was just me and my pal @WilliamspeteN who invented me to my first tech event before, I met y’all.

I’m excited to be here as a Community Lead.

Honestly I'm reeved up as this is another opportunity to give back to the tech community.
