moving lists from one board to another

I'm trying to move lists from one board to another, or even just to move from one location to another on the same board, and I'm getting an error message "cannot move list". I've tried other servers and even another computer to no avail. I've also tried to move all cards in a list to another list (as a workaround) and a message appears to say "all cards moved" - yet they are not moved.
