email to board question

Jon Gamble November 21, 2019

Hi - I've just started using email to board, which is working well. My question is.... when I go into the card created by the email to board is there a link to open the original email in my email inbox ? Is this possible ? If it's is not already, it would be an awesome feature . Thanks, Jon

@Jon Gamble nope there is no link back to the original email because Trello doesn't have any concept of where the email originated, and there's no universal way to link to an email. I built an integration that does have this feature:

Iain, thanks for the reply. Understood. I'll take a look at the integration. Do you charge a license fee to use? Thanks, Jon

@Jon Gamble yep it's A$49/year, the video on the website says $49 one off but that's old and tricky to change because it's video, will update it at some point!

Iain, ok thanks. So just to clarifiy, your integration, which sounds pretty cool, will do what I am looking for with regards to the email piece ? thanks, Jon

@Jon Gamble there are 2 basic "modes" for Benko Board that can be used separately or in conjunction:

1) INBOX mode automatically imports email from your your gmail primary as Trello cards. Gmail threads are matched up with cards, and new emails are added as comments to the existing card

2) LABEL mode allows you to map certain Gmail labels to particular lists/boards in Trello, so you apply a label and then a card is created

Either way the functionality is the same, you can reply to the email from the card, or click the link to View in Gmail, for example here is the email notification I received about your comment:

You can also do attachments, cc, bcc, create new emails or forward existing emails using different "@" commands in the card comments (this is a bit arcane interface-wise but it means this integration works on any device, whereas a Power-Up would have a nicer interface but only work on desktop/web apps).

You can then set this up as either Benko Board which is a personal email client, or BenkoDesk which provides the ability to share access to a single address to multiple board members (ie. a drop in replacement for tools like HelpScout or ZenDesk and the like).
