Why can't I add a personal board?

I've been added as a team member to a team to be able to see their boards - I'm not an admin or anything, and they have the max 10 free ones all active.  I have 2 personal boards of my own but am now not able to add another one. It automatically blanks it out saying the max team boards have been reached, even though I'm trying to create from my own board and within the personal board area. 

Any one have any ideas why it might not be letting me? Or any ideas of how I can create one. I was under the impression personal boards were unlimited.
