What dictates the FROM email address of "send an email" Automation?

Haruka Kojima May 20, 2025

Hey team,

I am using "send an email notification" in my board, and this creates an email address like "username-noreply@trellobutler.com".

1. What dictates the "username" part? Is it the admin user?

2. What if there are multiple people as admin?

3. Is there a way to dynamically change the "username" so the user that triggered the automation is used?

Thank you

Hi Haruka welcome to Trello community!

I understand that you are using one of the actions available for automation, so regarding your questions:

1 - the username part, is the username of the person who creates the automation. As the automation is linked to the member who create it, it will trigger under their username.
The exception is when using a card/board button automation, where the username is who did the action of clicking the button, despite who create the automation button.

2 - As the emails goes with the username of the member who created the automation (or clicked the button), it won't depend of the board admin.

3 - I'm afraid there isn't a way to change de username for automation rules, unless it's a button as I mentioned before.

Hope that clarifies your questions!

thank you @Luciana Munhoz  for the response!

I see, so the automation I am currently using is linked to the member who create it, and cannot be changed.

Thank you!
