UNSAVED CHANGES

I do believe that everyone is by now used to have a field and you go to it you write something and you just click away from it and you have that data saved.

But in Trello this is inconsistent!

Examples:

- you want to create a list - you click "+ Add a new list", you get a field "Enter list name" already highlighted, write some name and there's a confirmation button "Add list", you click away - no new list. You click the button, you get the list.

- you want to create a card in a list - you click "+ Add a card", you get a filed already highlighted "Enter a title or paste a link", write some name and there is still that "+ Add a card" button, but no confirmation button, click away and you get a new card! You click that button, you still get the card and a new fields to fill in a new card.

- you go into a card, you click on the title, you change it, you click away, your changes are saved, even if you close the card.

- you go into a card, you start writing description and you click away or close the card. your description is not saved! You might not even see the save button at the bottom if your resolution is not high enough.

All these inconsistencies affect the user experience. I would really recommend having a click away to save implementation for all fields and easy undo (in case unwanted changes).

Hi there,

You’ve raised an excellent point about UX consistency. Many users feel the same way when moving between card titles (which auto-save) and descriptions (which require a manual save).

While there isn't a "toggle switch" to change this behavior globally in settings, here is some context on why it is designed this way and how you can manage it:

The Logic Behind the Difference:

Short Fields (Titles): Trello treats these as simple metadata, so auto-save on "blur" (clicking away) is enabled to speed up the workflow.

Long Fields (Description/Comments): These often involve more complex formatting. Trello requires a manual "Save" to prevent accidental data loss or unwanted changes if you accidentally click outside the box while writing a long text.

Workaround - Keyboard Shortcuts:
To make the experience faster and more consistent, try using shortcuts instead of clicking the "Save" button:

Ctrl + Enter (or Cmd + Enter): This works in descriptions, comments, and list names to save instantly without moving your mouse.

Your suggestion for an "Auto-save + Easy Undo" model is actually how many modern productivity tools are evolving, and it's a great suggestion for the Trello roadmap.

Thank you for sharing such a detailed observation!
