Trello links open in new app window Mac and windows

I get my tasks over mail, messages etc. when I click them and have the Trello window open , the link opens another window. next link open another window ... in the end of the day I have like 20 windows.

I would like to know how I can get the app to open the links in the already open window.

1. Are you using the Trello desktop app, the mobile app, or accessing Trello through a web browser?
2. When you mention that you receive tasks via mail or messages, are these Trello card links that you're clicking on, or are you opening Trello first and then clicking on links within the cards?
3. If you're using a web browser, could you let me know which one you're using (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.)?

Once I have a clearer picture of your setup, I can provide more tailored suggestions. However, there is a workaround that might work for you which I'm using in Trello as well as other applications. When you open a new link, if you hold alt on Windows or Command on Mac, apps will sometimes interpret this as a request to open the link on a new tab instead of a new window.

Hi Renato! Since two weeks, I am experiencing the same issue.
I use the Desktop app and every time I click on a url in a Trello card (either in a custom field or in the description) it opens a new window, instead of a tab in my existin chrome window. This didn't happen until two weeks ago.

Could you clarify if the links you're clicking are external websites or internal Trello cards/boards?

I’ve been testing this on my end, and here is what I’ve observed so far:

• Links to Trello cards: These open in the same tab.

• Links to external sites: These open in a new tab within the same window.

If you are seeing different behavior, could you please try the following to help us rule out local browser issues?

1. Test the behavior in a different browser (e.g., if you're using Chrome, try Firefox or Safari).

2. Open Trello in an incognito or private window to see if the issue persists without browser extensions.

It happens with external links mainly.

The only consistency I found, is that if I clicked on the browser window first, then on the link on my Trello Desktop app, it opens in the existing browser window. If I visited a different tab (e.g. Slack) and then click on an external link in my Trello Desktop app, it opens a new Chrome window.

I cannot test it in a different browser, unfortunately. My default browser is set to Chrome, which is locked for editing if you're not a computer admin (company computer). So any link I will try to open, will always open in Chrome.

A colleague of mine reported the exact same issue happening.
