Trello dark mode having white label cards

Recently all of my dark themed boards load white labels on cards on start and black text on black themed column names - hardly visible. So it's not even a light theme - it's an unreadable mixture.

Theme chosen is dark. When I manually change to light and back to dark it is OK, until browser restart.

Asonishingly when I loaded in private mode it looked OK. So obviously after that I deleted all cookies, cash etc. but the problem persists.

If anyone can help solve me this issue it wiould be highly appreciated, as I am using Trello for personal tasks quite extensively and loading it multiple times a day.

Hi @Jakub Zachara

That definitely sounds frustrating, especially since it keeps happening every time you restart your browser. The fact that Trello works correctly in private mode is an important clue, because it usually means something in your normal browser profile is interfering with how the theme is rendered. Would be nice to see a screenshot so that it can be reproduced but we could try finding something without it too..

I First of all I would also check simply on other browsers. The most common cause of this kind of issue is a browser extension. In private mode, extensions are typically disabled, which is why everything appears normal there. In your regular browser session, however, an extension especially one that forces dark mode, blocks ads, or modifies page styles can override Trello’s own theme settings and create that unreadable mix of colors. It’s worth disabling all extensions temporarily and then re-enabling them one by one to identify the culprit.

Another possible reason is that your browser is forcing its own version of dark mode on websites. For example, in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, there are experimental settings that can automatically apply dark styling to all web pages. If one of these options is enabled, it can conflict with Trello’s built-in dark theme and lead to broken visuals like white labels or black text on dark backgrounds.

It’s also possible that clearing cookies wasn’t enough, because browsers store additional site data such as local storage. If that data becomes corupted, it can cause persistent display issues. Removing all stored data specifically for Trello, not just cookies, may help resolve the problem..

In some cases, hardware acceleration can also cause rendering glitches, particularly with modern web apps. Turning that setting off in your browser and restarting it is a simple test that sometimes fixes visual inconsistencies.

Finally, since everything works correctly in private mode, there’s a chance your main browser profile itself has become partially corrupted. Creating a fresh profile and logging into Trello there can help confirm whether that’s the case.

Overall, the behavior you’re seeing strongly suggests that something external to Trello most likely an extension or browser-level setting is overriding parts of the dark theme and causing the mismatch..

BTW - Which browser are you using?

First of all - thanks for the prompt and very comprehensive reply. Much appreciated!
I am using Chrome and please see attached a screenshot of the current default looks.
The issues are the white top bar, white cards and black names of columns.

I'll do some extended troubleshooting based on your suggestions and come back.  trello_screen.png

OK, it was an easy find with your suggestions. It's a problem with a recent update of the "Stay Focusd" extension, specifically the "display timer" option, which apparently messes somehow with the display of the trello board unfortunately.
Fixed it by disabling the extension for Trello and it's a perfect workaround, while the issue seems to be with the extension, not Trello.

Many thanks for your support!
